Girl influenced by ‘evil spirit’ beaten to death by parents

A three-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by her parents at Shaharasti upazila in Chandpur district on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Sumaiya, daughter of Imran Ali.
The parents told the villagers that their daughter was influenced by evil spirit while she did not feel any pain even she was beaten, locals said.
The body of the girl was sent to the Chandpur Sadar Modern Hospital morgue for autosy, Shaharasti Police Station said.
The police arrested Sumaiya’s parents Imran Ali and Amena Begum in this connection.
Local people said that, Imran Ali had a plan to earn money in the name of spiritual power in the village. As per his plan, he called the people that his daughter Sumaiya influenced by evil spirit [Jwin] can resolve any problem of the people.
To show the people her power, the parents beat their daughter mercilessly for six days. Finally on Wednesday, Sumaiya died.
Shahrasti Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman said that Sub-Inspector Nazimuddin filed a case in this regard. Police arrested the parents on charge of murdering the daughter.
