Pori Moni gets bail on bond

Actress Pori Moni has been granted bail on a Tk500 bond after surrendering before a Dhaka court in a case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud over allegations of assault, vandalism and intimidation.

Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman granted her bail on Thursday after a hearing, a day after the court issued an arrest warrant against her for failing to appear.

Pori Moni arrived at the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court around 11:40am in a white car and surrendered before the court at 11:55am, seeking bail.

Her lawyer, Nilanjona Rifat, confirmed the development to Prothom Alo, saying they had surrendered before the court and sought bail following the arrest warrant issued on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the court was scheduled to record witness testimony in the case. However, Pori Moni failed to appear.

Although her lawyer submitted a petition seeking more time, the court rejected it, cancelled her bail and ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant.

Nasir Uddin Mahmud filed the case with a Dhaka court on July 6, 2022.

In his complaint, he alleged that Pori Moni and her associates went to the Boat Club in Savar on the night of June 9, 2021.

According to the complaint, at around 1:15am, as Nasir and his associate Shah Shahidul Alam were leaving the club, Pori Moni called him over and asked him to sit with her for a while.

Nasir alleged that she later demanded a bottle of alcohol free of charge. When he refused, she verbally abused him. During the ensuing altercation, she allegedly threw a glass and a mobile phone at him, injuring his head and chest.

He also accused her of assault, issuing death threats and vandalising the club.
