‘Bangladesh must become AI innovator, not just user’

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for building an artificial intelligence (AI)-capable Bangladesh that can develop and innovate the technology rather than remain merely a user.
“We must build a Bangladesh that will not only make proper use of AI technology but also take a leading role in its innovation through collective efforts,” he said.

The President made the remarks while inaugurating the Bangladesh AI Business Summit 2026 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) in Dhaka on Thursday morning.
Stressing the need to become an active participant in technological change, he said Bangladesh should be AI-capable, innovation-driven and focused on human welfare instead of depending solely on the technology.
He said AI was a major part of the country’s ongoing transformation and could reshape agriculture, education, healthcare, industry, trade, employment and the overall economy over the next decade.
Describing AI as a key driver of future development, Mirza Fakhrul said the technology should be used strategically to raise productivity, modernise industries, expand exports, attract investment and create decent jobs for millions of young people.
He said Bangladesh’s large young population was one of its greatest strengths. Equipping young people with technological knowledge and skills could make them key contributors to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
