‘RNPP to play vital role in country’s growing power’

Managing Director (MD) of Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL) Dr. Md. Jahedul Hasan said that the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will play an important role in meeting the country’s growing electricity demand and ensuring long-term energy security.

He said this as the chief guest at a view exchange meeting titled ‘Community Leader Roundtable’ held with the participation of imams of Pakshi and Sahapur unions on Thursday with the aim of increasing public awareness about the safety of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, environmental protection and the role of this project in the socio-economic development of the country and strengthening the involvement of the local people.

The plant has a plan to generate a total of 2,400 MW of electricity from its two units. He highlighted the importance of modern technology, multiple levels of safety systems and regular monitoring to ensure the safe operation of the power plant and environmental protection.

The meeting was organised at the Nuclear Information Center, Ishwardi in collaboration with the Islamic Foundation, Pabna and the Nuclear Information Center, Ishwardi.

The meeting was presided over by Dr. Md. Kabir Hossain, Project Director of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Construction Project. The keynote address was presented by Mr. Md. Aliuzzaman, Head, Human Resources Division and Chief Scientific Officer.

In addition, NPCBL Manager and Chief Scientific Officer of the project, Mr. Golam Shahinur Islam, and officials related to the public communication activities of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction project were present.

The meeting was also discussed in a simple and informative manner about the nuclear power generation process, modern safety systems of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, radiation control and monitoring, environmental protection and the socio-economic contribution of the project at the local and national levels.

In his speech as the chairman, Project Director Dr. Md. Kabir Hossain said that Imams are highly respected and trusted figures among the local people.

They have acceptance and influence in the society. Therefore, imams can play an important role in disseminating accurate and scientifically based information about the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, dispelling common misconceptions and increasing public awareness.
