BGB steps up surveillance amid labour unrest
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has deployed 12 platoons of its members in Gazipur, Narayanganj and nearby industrial areas to maintain law and order amid labour unrest and ensure public safety and uninterrupted industrial operations.
Of the deployed personnel, 10 platoons have been stationed in Shafipur, Kaliakair and Konabari areas of Gazipur, while two platoons have been deployed in Chashara, Narayanganj.
BGB Headquarters Public Relations Officer (PRO) Md Shariful Islam disclosed the deployment on Tuesday afternoon. He said the force was also closely monitoring the overall situation in Ashulia, Mirpur and other relevant areas.
BGB has intensified technology-based surveillance to strengthen monitoring at the field level and ensure quick action when necessary, Shariful Islam said.
The force has stepped up drone surveillance, particularly along important roads, junctions and sensitive areas. It is also using body-worn cameras to monitor the activities of its members on duty.
The cameras are helping track field operations while ensuring transparency and accountability in the discharge of responsibilities, the PRO said.
Live footage from drones and body-worn cameras is being monitored through a central monitoring cell set up at BGB Headquarters.
The system allows authorities to assess developments on the ground in real time, coordinate with relevant units and provide necessary instructions, he said.
BGB said its members were working in coordination with the local administration and other law enforcement agencies to maintain normalcy in the industrial areas.
The deployment and increased surveillance come amid labour unrest in industrial areas, with the force aiming to protect public safety and help keep industrial operations uninterrupted.
