Actors’ Equity takes responsibility for Somu Chy’s treatment
Somu Chowdhury, a once-powerful actor of TV, stage and cinema, has lost his mental balance. Numerous videos of him are circulating on social platforms. However, he is not acting, but is seen in the guise of a vagabond, in an unusual state.
Sometimes in the market, sometimes in the shrine, and sometimes in the music hall, videos of his presence are spreading online.
Many are creating blogs about him, spreading incoherent words of Somu Chowdhury. Many are expressing concern over the spread of such pictures and videos of him. His colleagues have urged him to stand by his side.
Recently, Somu Chowdhury’s mother, Joynab Chowdhury, told the media that Somu has been mentally ill for several years. They are unable to get him treated due to lack of money.
Actors’ Equity, an organisation of TV actors, stood by the actor during such a difficult time. Rashed Mamun Apu, general secretary of the organisation, said that the Actors’ Equity is taking responsibility for Somu Chowdhury’s treatment. He said, “We are ready to take responsibility
for Somu Chowdhury’s treatment.
We were waiting for his family’s permission. Yesterday we received permission from his family. Processing has already started.
His entire treatment will be under our supervision. All expenses will be borne by the Actors’ Equity.”
