Hospital admissions reach 200,319 since March
Bangladesh’s combined confirmed and suspected measles-related death toll rose to 1,242 this year after two more children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Wednesday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) classified both latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths, taking the number of suspected deaths to 1,137. The number of confirmed measles deaths remained unchanged at 105.
The country also recorded 1,322 new suspected measles cases during the 24-hour period, raising the cumulative number to 225,106 nationwide, DGHS data showed.
Meanwhile, 90 new laboratory-confirmed infections were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed measles cases to 23,631.
The latest figures reflect the continuing burden of suspected and confirmed measles infections across Bangladesh, with hundreds of thousands of suspected cases reported since the outbreak began.
Since March 15 this year, a total of 200,319 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country. Of them, 192,178 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
The figures distinguish between suspected and laboratory-confirmed infections and deaths, with the health authorities maintaining separate totals for each category.
