AI company sued for allegedly stealing Elvis Presley’s song
A legal battle has begun against AI company Anthropic for allegedly plagiarising songs by legendary American musician Elvis Presley.
The technology company has been accused of training its AI model using hundreds of Elvis’s timeless songs without any permission.
The lawsuit, first reported by music magazine Billboard, alleges that the company that created the AI model, Claude, infringed on the copyright of at least 274 Elvis Presley songs, including hits like ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love,’ ‘A Little Less Conversation’ and ‘Don’t Be Cruel.’
The lawsuit seeks $150,000 in damages for each song, totaling about $41 million.
The lawsuit was filed by
a division of Authentic Brands Group, which controls Elvis Presley’s intellectual property, including his song catalog, brand trademarks, and rights to his name, image, and identity. Several other Elvis rights holders are also involved
in the lawsuit.
