BD to hold first UNO confce in Dec

The government has taken the initiative to organise a conference for Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) for the first time, with the event tentatively scheduled for December.

Meanwhile, the annual Deputy Commissioners’ (DCs) Conference is expected to be held from January 31 to February 3 next year.

According to sources at the Prime Minister’s Office, the exact date for the UNO conference has not yet been finalised.

However, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has agreed to attend the inaugural ceremony of the DC conference.

He is scheduled to inaugurate the event on January 31 at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.

The prime minister is also expected to inaugurate the UNO conference once its date is finalised.

The annual DC conference features separate sessions with different ministries.

Several months before the event, deputy commissioners are asked to submit proposals outlining the problems in their respective districts, development prospects, ongoing projects, policy-related matters, and important regional and national issues.

The Cabinet Division reviews the proposals submitted by the deputy commissioners and consults with the relevant ministries before preparing a final list.

During the conference, the proposals are discussed in detail in the presence of the ministers, advisers and secretaries concerned.

Although the government has decided to organise the UNO conference for the first time, its structure and operational procedures have yet to be finalised, according to sources at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Meanwhile, the field administration has been facing various challenges since the mass uprising.

Some difficulties have also emerged at the grassroots level in implementing the government’s Family Card project.

Officials concerned believe that these challenges facing the field administration, along with problems encountered in implementing government projects, could receive significant attention at the UNO and DC conferences.
