Mohammedan, Kings win

Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited have secured their third consecutive victory in the Bangladesh Football League.

The black and white outfit defeated PWD Sports Club by two goals to nil at the Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj on Friday.

Reigning champions Bashundhara Kings blanked City Club Dhaka by three goals to nil at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur on the same day.

With three wins and 9 points, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club took the second position in the points table.

Bangladesh Police Football Club also have gained 9 points from the same number of matches but led the points table on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Bashundhara Kings took the fourth place gaining 7 points from three matches.

City Club Dhaka, which had remained unbeaten in their first three league matches, could not make an impact against Bashundhara Kings yesterday.

Although they managed to create a few scoring opportunities, the Dhaka-based side failed to convert them.

They faced frustration due to losing possession, off-target shots, and an inability to get the better of the opposing goalkeeper. Ultimately, the league newcomers had to leave the pitch with defeat.

In contrast, Bashundhara Kings played an attacking brand of football from the very beginning and before the long whistle.

They fired 13 shots toward City Club’s goalbar, 9 of which were on target, resulting in three goals.

After a goalless first half, the Kings took an early lead following the break. Bashundhara’s Brazilian recruit Robson Robinho scored in the 49th minute.

In the 71st minute, their Nigerian striker Emeka Ogbugh doubled the lead by a penalty shot. City Club midfielder Farhad Mia roughly charged Emeka inside the box while attempting to thwart an attack.

When the referee signaled for a penalty, Emeka made no mistake from the spot. In stoppage time, Quazem Shah scored the team’s third goal with a clinical finish following a cross from Mohammad Abdullah.

Meanwhile, Mohammedan did not find the back of the net during the first half of their match against PWD Sports Club. Later the popular Motijheel-based out-fit took the lead early in the second half.

In the 46th minute, Malian forward Souleymane Diabate easily found the back of the net following a pass from Shahriar Emon.

After conceding the goal, PWD Sports Club attempted to level the score but failed to break through Mohammedan’s well-organized defense. Mohammedan extended their lead in the 78th minute through a goal by Minhajul Abedin.

From that point on, there was no way back into the match for PWD Sports Club. There are three league matches scheduled for today.
