Constable suspended over dope test
Kishoreganj district police constable has been suspended from service as the dope test confirmed positive.
The constable Osman Gani, son of Abdul Quddes, is a resident of Sahabeliswar village in Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka district. He had been serving as a driver constable in Kishoreganj district police for a long time.
Confirming the information on Tuesday, Md Mizanur Rahman, superintendent of police (SP) said that action had been taken against the constable after his dope test returned positive.
“The police have a zero-tolerance policy against drugs consumption, which applies equally to police personnel. Therefore, we conducted our action against drugs consumption,” he said.
Meanwhile, the district police have formed a three-member investigation committee to look into the matter and recommend further legal action, if necessary.
SP’s office confirmed, senior officials had noticed unusual behaviour and movements by the constable for some time. He was subsequently placed under surveillance, and a decision was made to conduct a dope test to maintain discipline and protect the image of the police force.
The test was conducted at Kishoreganj 250-bed General Hospital on Tuesday morning, and the report came back positive.
Following receipt of the report, the authorities suspended Osman Gani from service.
A three-member committee has also been formed to investigate the matter, including the types of drugs the constable allegedly used. The committee has been asked to submit a detailed report as soon as possible.
