Mollahat bridge connecting road turns into death trap

The collapse of the Naldangi Bridge connecting road in Gangni union of Mollahat upazila has created a lot of inconvenience for the public. It has now become a death trap for thousands of people who use this road every day for their lives and livelihood.

It can be seen from the ground that the Naldangi Bridge is the main means of communication for people in several villages of Gangni Union. In addition, pickup trucks carrying various goods including fish, vegetables, and other goods from Rupsha, Kachdia, and Gangni markets use this route.

Although the road has been in a poor condition for a long time, recently a large part of the connecting road collapsed and sank into the embankments on both sides of the road.

As a result, small vehicles including easy bikes, vans and motorcycles have been in the grip of accidents. Due to the lack of lighting at night, unknown pedestrians and vehicles are often victims of accidents.

Locals said that several trucks have recently overturned at this location. A truck loaded with cows overturned, killing three cows. In addition, every day, some mini-trucks and easy bikes carrying goods get stuck in the mud and suffer.

Locals complain that the ground beneath the connecting road has collapsed due to lack of repairs for a long time. If the road is completely cut off, people will have to travel several kilometers to reach the upazila headquarters, which will increase both time and cost manifold.

According to sources from the Upazila Engineering Department, information about the collapsed section was collected and the process of ensuring permanent repair of the road through emergency allocation is underway.

However, locals are demanding that the renovation work be started immediately, beyond the assurances, so that any major accidents or loss of life can be avoided.
