Two cases on landslide incidents

Police has filed two cases in connection with the Sunday’s landslide and wall collapse in the city that claimed six lives, three of them being members of the same family, police said yesterdaty.
Sub-Inspector of Bayezid Police Station Abdul Halim, filed a case against two persons in the incident of landslide at Amin Colony while SI Rasel of Khulshi Police Station, lodged the second case against a person over the wall collapse at Pora Colony in the Lalkhan Bazar area of the port city.
Following the first case, police arrested Shahabuddin and Joynal Abedin, from Amin Colony in the small hours of Monday.
Police said the duo accused illegally erected the houses in the area cutting hill that triggered the landslide.
The man accused in the second case is Khokon whose house wall collapsed at Pora Colony.
Six people, including three siblings, were killed and four others injured in two incidents of landslide and wall collapse, resulted from past several days of torrential rains. A total of 127 people residing in shanties under foothills died during the deadly landslips in the hills in June 2007.
The district administration carryout eviction campaigns drives every year in the hills ahead of monsoon while the latest tragedy came when the drive was underway.
