Minister calls for legal action on humanitarian, tech risks
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has urged the international community to move beyond political commitments and establish genuine global burden-sharing to address escalating humanitarian, legal and technological challenges.
“The world is exhausted by unfulfilled political rhetoric. Grand declarations will not house the displaced, restrain unchecked digital monopolies, or heal the scratches of tyranny,” he said while addressing the inaugural session of the International Justice Summit-Istanbul 2026.
The two-day summit is being held at Ciragan Palace in Istanbul, Turkiye, and organised by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkiye, according to an official release issued on Thursday.
The law minister said the time for abstract aspirations was over and stressed that world leaders must translate their promises into concrete legal action.
Addressing the Rohingya humanitarian crisis, Asaduzzaman said Bangladesh had sheltered more than 1.2 million forcibly displaced Rohingyas who fled persecution in Myanmar.
Expressing gratitude for Turkiye’s solidarity, including First Lady Emine Erdogan’s visit to Cox’s Bazar, he stressed that Bangladesh could not carry the global responsibility alone.
He called for international intervention to resolve the crisis at its root in Myanmar and ensure dignity, citizenship and long-term peace for the Rohingya people.
The minister also highlighted technological threats posed by unregulated transnational technology platforms.
He said such platforms posed serious cross-border risks to social stability and communal harmony through disinformation, hate speech, cybercrimes and algorithmic bias.
Turkiye’s Minister of Justice Akin Gurlek, Syrian Minister of Justice Mazhar al-Wais and Judge at the European Court of Human Rights Prof Dr Saadet Yuksel, among others, addressed the inaugural session.
Law and justice ministers, judges and legal professionals from 75 countries are taking part in the summit, which is scheduled to conclude on October 9.
