Four more die with measles-like symptoms, toll reaches 1,144
Four children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Thursday, raising Bangladesh’s combined confirmed and suspected measles-related death toll to 1,144 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS classified all four latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths and reported no confirmed measles deaths during the period.
With the latest figures, the number of suspected measles deaths has reached 1,040, while confirmed deaths remain at 104.
The health authorities also reported 1,332 new suspected measles cases in the 24-hour period, taking the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 201,625.
Meanwhile, 96 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, raising the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 22,116.
Since March 15 this year, a total of 178,927 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country, according to the DGHS.
Of them, 171,680 patients have recovered.
The latest figures cover the 24-hour period until 8:00am Thursday and include both suspected and laboratory-confirmed measles cases reported by the health authorities.
