NCC Bank recently held its Annual Risk Management Conference 2026 at its head office to raise risk awareness, build an effective and robust risk management system and ensure compliance with regulatory directives.

Held under the theme “The Changing Landscape of Risk Management Practices in the Banking Industry”, the conference was attended by Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Md Mojibur Rahman Sheikh as the chief guest, according to the press release.

NCC Bank Managing Director M Shamsul Arefin presided over the conference, while Dipti Rani Hazra, director of Bangladesh Bank’s Bank Supervision Department (BSD-04), attended as the special guest.

M Khurshed Alam, additional managing director and chief risk officer of NCC Bank, delivered the welcome address. Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, deputy managing director and chief financial officer of NCC Bank, was also present.

Md Alamgir Hossain, joint director of Bangladesh Bank’s Bank Supervision Department (BSD-04); Saif Alam, head of NCC Bank’s Risk Management Division; and Md Meizanur Rahman, head of information security and IT governance, contributed analytical discussions.

Divisional heads from the bank’s head office, branch managers, other senior executives and officials of the Risk Management Division attended the event. Managers and relevant officials from the bank’s other branches joined through a digital platform.

Speaking as the chief guest, Md Mojibur Rahman Sheikh said there was no alternative to effective risk management in ensuring the long-term, orderly and sustainable conduct of all banking activities.

He called on all concerned to ensure the bank’s stability by properly identifying, assessing and controlling risks associated with changing economic conditions, technological advancement, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, alongside credit, liquidity and operational risks. He thanked NCC Bank for organising a timely conference on risk management.

In his address as chair, M Shamsul Arefin said NCC Bank had always conducted its operations in accordance with Bangladesh Bank’s directives and prevailing policies and continued to work towards effective risk management.

He said establishing a strong “risk management culture” required officials and employees at every level to remain aware of the potential risks associated with their respective duties and activities.

He advised all concerned to work more cautiously, responsibly and in a coordinated manner on risk management, alongside identifying, assessing and controlling potential risks in advance.

Speaking as the special guest, Dipti Rani Hazra said merely identifying risks was not enough. Analysing their potential impact, taking preventive measures in time and building a risk management culture at all relevant levels were also necessary.

She emphasised compliance with Bangladesh Bank’s directives and policies, alongside further strengthening the bank’s own policies, internal control systems and governance framework.

M Khurshed Alam discussed the bank’s major risks, the challenges arising from various risks in the current banking environment and effective risk management practices.

He provided guidance on the responsibilities of relevant officials in managing risks, including identifying, assessing, monitoring and controlling potential risks.
