Salman Khan’s ‘Maatrubhumi’ gets a makeover

Salman Khan’s ‘Maatrubhumi’, which was stuck in the face of objections from the Indian government, has finally been cleared for release.

After several revisions, the country’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting recently issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the film to be screened in theatres.

‘Maatrubhumi’ is set in the backdrop of the Galwan Valley clash between India and China in 2020. Salman plays the role of Col Vikkumalla Santosh Babu.

In the Galwan clash, 20 Indian soldiers from the 16th Bihar Regiment, including Santosh Babu, lost their lives. The film was initially titled ‘Battle of Galwan’ and was scheduled to be released in April.

However, after the teaser was released, Chinese state-run media outlet Global Times strongly criticised the film, alleging that it was distorting information and inciting anti-China sentiment. Later, India’s Ministry of Defense intervened in the matter. As a result, the film’s future is uncertain.
