China, Japan in top of medal tables

Bangladesh perform poor

Bangladesh contingent take part in the march past on the concluding day of the Asian Games 2026 at Aichi-Nagoya in Japan on Sunday.

The 20th Asian Games are over, the medal list is also final. China are at the top, followed by Japan.

Bangladesh are also on the medal list. A total of 45 countries, including a refugee team, participated in this year’s Aichi-Nagoya Games. Out of these, 40 countries have won medals.

Wushu athlete Jinnat Akter brought Bangladesh the only bronze. But she did not have to play much.

Of course, to find Bangladesh’s name among those countries, but we have to go quite far down the medal list. Down means very low. All four countries have won one each, collectively ranking 37th. Bangladesh are also ranked 37th in the medal list.

Apart from Bangladesh, Brunei, Laos and Syria have won one medal each. These medals are not gold or silver, but bronze. Wushu athlete Jinnat Akter brought Bangladesh the only bronze. But she did not have to play much.

She directly advanced to the semifinals after her quarter-final opponent was disqualified. She lost to China’s Wu Di in the semi-final, but the bronze was confirmed. Bangladesh have won an Asian Games medal in a single event after 40 years.

After Jinnat’s success, the men’s cricket team were close to reaching the medal podium. But it did not happen as Litton Das & Co. lost to Sri Lanka in the third-place-deciding match. Bangladesh took a total of 187 athletes to this year’s Asian Games. Although there were hopes of medals from kabaddi, archery and shooting in addition to cricket, they had to return empty-handed.

There are no special surprises in the medal fight at this year’s Asian Games. The teams that always win the most medals in the Asian Games are the same this time too. For example, China have won 341 medals, including 169 golds, and they are also at the top of the all-time medal list of the Asian Games (3,911, including 1,843 golds).

Japan are second this time with 83 golds, and they are also second in the all-time list (1,167 golds). And South Korea, which are in third place all-time with 826, have won the third-highest 39 golds this time.
