Joty will lead the ODI team on tour of Australia

Ever since she stepped down from the T20I Captaincy, the question had been circulating: would Nigar Sultana Joty also lose the leadership of the ODI team?

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had been left in an awkward position when she stepped down as T20I captain midway through the Asian Games.

There had been considerable speculation regarding Joty’s ODI captaincy ahead of the Australia tour

. The BCB has put all such speculation to rest; it is indeed Joty who will lead the ODI team during the tour of Australia.

Bangladesh are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against Australia. There was speculation that Joty would be removed from the ODI captaincy and the responsibility handed to someone else.

BCB President Tamim Iqbal and Women’s Wing Chairman Rafiqul Islam Babu held a meeting with the women cricketers at the BCB office on Monday.

Following the meeting, Rafiqul clarified the stance regarding the future of Joty’s ODI captaincy.

Joty has been leading the Bangladesh team in ODIs since 2021.

Rafiqul said, “During the meeting, I told you (Joty) that you are remaining as captain and will travel to Australia as captain.”

He stated, the board would not issue a show-cause notice to Imran. The BCB considers the comments he made regarding the captaincy and coaching situation-following the conclusion of Bangladesh’s Asian Games campaign-to be ‘inappropriate’.

Rafiqul said, “We did not issue any show-cause notice. He is a very senior coach; we did not expect this from him.

He is one of the senior coaches working under the cricket board, so we did not anticipate such behavior from him.

I have also stated in the media that he made a mistake-a serious mistake.”
