Khaled now set on Afghan Test

After a stellar stint with Kent in the County Championship, pacer Khaled Ahmed is now busy preparing for the Test match against Afghanistan.

Khaled Ahmed needs another day or two to fully acclimatise to the hot weather of the United Arab Emirates after coming from the cold climate of England.

Bangladesh are currently in the United Arab Emirates to play the one-off Test against Afghanistan. The Test is set to begin in Abu Dhabi on October 9. Khaled is busy training with the Test squad.

“The experience was very good, Alhamdulillah. I had been out of the game for a long time.

Then an opportunity arose, and I agreed to play county cricket. Initially, after arriving there, I struggled a bit to adjust to the cold. But once I started playing, things went well, Alhamdulillah,” said Khaled.

“As a professional cricketer, you have to adapt to any environment. As I’ve mentioned before, I adjusted to the cold after arriving in England; similarly, I have to adapt to the heat here in Dubai.

Dwelling on the heat would only cause problems, so I am focusing on adapting. I bowled today and did some running yesterday, so I’ve pretty much adjusted by now.”

Khaled also views the experience of playing in the county circuit as a significant learning opportunity: “When I started playing cricket and began to understand the game as a youngster, I dreamed of one day p

laying in franchise four-day or T20 leagues.

English cricket was a great experience for me; I was delighted when the opportunity arose.”

Khaled also mentioned the fact; he had not played a match for a long time before traveling to England.

He did not get the opportunity to play in the first match there either. However, the captain and coaches advised him to gradually adjust to the new environment: “I hadn’t played a single match before going there, and I didn’t play the first match after arriving either.

The captain and coaches told me, ‘You’ve just arrived, and there’s a process of settling in. So, try to adjust first; you’ll play from the next match.'”
