Auspicious start for Mohammedan

A tense moment of the Bangladesh Football League match between Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and Fakirerpool Youngmen's Club at Chandpur District Stadium on Friday.

The traditional Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited have started the new football season with a win. The black and white team started the Bangladesh Football League by defeating the host Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club 1-0 at the Chandpur District Stadium on Friday.

From the beginning of the match, both teams were engaged in attack and counter-attack.

Mohammedan got the desired goal in the 18th minute. Jahid Hasan Shanto headed the ball into the net from using his teammate Uzbek midfielder and Captain Muzaffarov’s corner. This goal decided the fate of the match.

Despite conceding a goal, Fakirerpool created several opportunities to come back into the match. But newly-joined goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico stood as a wall under Mohammedan’s goalbar.

Zico gave the team confidence in his first match in the black and white jersey. He kept the team ahead by thwarting Fakirerpool’s double attack in the first half.

This is Fakirerpool’s second match and first defeat in the current league. In the previous match, they defeated Dhaka Wanderers Club with a brilliant double goal by Suleiman Sillah.

In yesterday’s match, Silla and Saif also had scoring opportunities, but could not capitalize on them due to lack of finishing.

Fakirerpool celebrated a historic victory by defeating Mohammedan in January last year, which was their first success against Mohammedan in the professional era.

This time, the black and white team took sweet revenge that defeat.
The poor condition of the Chandpur District Stadium has come to the fore, overshadowing the exciting game on the field.

There is no grass in many places on the field, the ground is rough and uneven. Organizing games on such a field is in no way acceptable by the standards of professional football. The teams are forced to play on such a bad field.

In the other matches of the day, Brothers Union drew 1-1 with PWD Sports Club, Bangladesh Police Football Club defeated Chattogram City FC 3-0.
