JS committee seeks better Teletalk services

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology has recommended measures to improve the quality of Teletalk services and expand the use of information and communication technology to develop the younger generation and create jobs.

The recommendation was made at the committee’s first meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday, according to a press release.

The meeting was chaired by committee Chairman Kalim Uddin Ahmed.
The committee also stressed diversified use of ICT to support the development of a knowledge-based society.

The meeting was attended by Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam and committee members Md Abul Khayer Bhuiyan, Md Tamiz Uddin, Md Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan, Mansura Akter, Md Keramat Ali and Saeed Uddin Ahmad Hanzala.

The committee was briefed on plans for providing Wi-Fi services at airports, improving the quality of land services and reducing internet costs.

The meeting also discussed effective utilisation of unused assets of the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) and initiatives to increase the volume of parcel services provided by the Postal Department. The recommendations came as the committee reviewed issues relating to the ministry’s telecommunications, postal and ICT-related activities.

Secretaries of the Posts and Telecommunications Division and the Information and Communication Technology Division, heads of offices under the ministry, senior officials concerned and relevant officials of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were present at the meeting.
