6 held over attack on Salman’s studio

Police have arrested six people so far over the attack, vandalism and looting at content creator Salman Muqtadir’s studio in Dhaka’s South Manikdi area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner for Media and Public Relations Md Aktar Hossain confirmed the arrests on Tuesday.

The incident took place at the New Gini Properties housing project near ECB Chattar on Saturday night. According to police, the attack began at around 10:30pm and continued for about an hour.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident. A chase and counter-chase later took place between police and the attackers, while local residents reported hearing several gunshots.

A case has been filed naming 13 people, including former Major General Golam Mahiuddin Chowdhury, along with 150 to 200 unidentified accused.

Mohammad Saiful Islam Bhuiyan filed the case on behalf of New Gini Properties Ltd with Cantonment Police Station on Sunday.

Police initially arrested four people, including Shahriar, who investigators allege was the mastermind behind the attack.

The other three were identified as Md Mamun of Bhashantek slum and Aslam and Munna of the Majumdar Mor area.

Two more suspects were later arrested, taking the total number of arrests to six.
Police said investigations into the attack and looting are continuing.
