Newly elected BNP MP visits Jamaat rival

In a gesture of political courtesy and goodwill, newly elected BNP MP Mirza Faisal Amin visited his election rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Delawar Hossain, at his residence on Friday, a day after securing a decisive victory in the Thakurgaon-1 by-election.

Carrying a bouquet of flowers, Faisal Amin went to Hossain’s home to pay a courtesy visit. The two leaders greeted each other warmly and embraced, setting a cordial tone for the meeting.

During the visit, Faisal called on political leaders to put aside their differences and work together for the development of Thakurgaon.

In response, Delawar Hossain assured the newly elected MP of his full support for development initiatives in the constituency.

The meeting came a day after Mirza Faisal Amin, younger brother of BNP stalwart and current President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, was unofficially declared the winner of Thursday’s by-election in Thakurgaon-1.

Contesting with the BNP’s sheaf of paddy symbol, Faisal secured 2,27,917 votes, defeating his Jamaat rival by a substantial margin.

Delawar Hossain finished second with 96,513 votes, contesting with Jamaat-e-Islami’s scales symbol.
