Abahani off to a disappointing start in Federation Cup

Following their performance in the Bangladesh Football League, Dhaka Abahani Limited have also made a disappointing start to the Federation Cup.

They had previously played out a goalless draw against PWD Sports Club in their opening Bangladesh Football League match on September 19.

Maruful Haque’s team failed to secure a win in their opening Federation Cup match as well.

On Friday, Dhaka Abahani Limited drew 1-1 with newcomers Chattogram City FC.

At the Bir Shreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj, both teams engaged in end-to-end attacking football from the start. However, neither side managed to score in the first half.

After the break, Abahani took the lead in the 52nd minute through a goal by Rabiul Hasan.

The ‘Sky-Blues’ harboured hopes of victory after taking the lead, but they could not hold onto it for long.

Just 11 minutes later, Raphael equalized for Chattogram City FC, bringing the score to 1-1.

With no further goals scored, both teams had to settle for a draw. All three matches in Group A of the Federation Cup have ended in draws so far.

Earlier, on September 22, Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club drew 1-1 with Fortis FC in the group’s opening match, and the following day, the match between Brothers Union and Rahmatganj MFS also ended in a goalless draw.
