Justice Debasish Roy sworn in as HC permanent judge

Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury was sworn in as a permanent judge of the High Court Division on Thursday.

Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury administered the oath at 11:00am at the Supreme Court Judges’ Lounge in the presence of judges from both divisions of the Supreme Court and officials of the apex court administration.

President on September 21 appointed Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury, then an Additional Judge of the High Court Division, as a permanent judge of the same division.

According to a gazette notification issued by the Law and Justice Division on the same day, the appointment was made by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice under Article 95 of the Constitution.

Born on March 1, 1981, Justice Chowdhury earned his LL.B. (Hons) from the University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. He also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma from the College of Law, England and Wales, and Certificates in Laws from Holborn College, United Kingdom.

He was enrolled as an advocate of the district courts in 2005, the High Court Division in 2007, and the Appellate Division in 2018.

Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on October 8, 2024.
