Body found from Dhanmondi Lake, probe underway

Police recovered the floating body of Jabed Ahmed, a marketing consultant, from Dhanmondi Lake in the capital on Tuesday morning.

Jabed’s permanent address is House No. 122, Road No. 13, Banani, while he had been living with his family at House No. 556/67, Road No. 1, Block I, Bashundhara Residential Area. His father’s name is Salauddin Ahmed.

Dhanmondi Police Station Sub-Inspector S M Abdul Gafur said police went to the spot after receiving a call through the national emergency service 999 at around 6:30am.

The body was recovered from beneath a bridge behind Abesh Hotel on Dhanmondi Road No. 10.

Police identified Jabed through a national identity card found in his pocket and informed his family using the mobile phone found with him. His wife, Shahana Jabin Khan, later went to Dhanmondi and identified the body.

Citing family members, SI Abdul Gafur said Jabed had worked as a marketing consultant but had been unemployed for a long time. He had reportedly been facing financial difficulties and social pressures.

According to the police inquest report, no visible injury marks were found on the body. Police also noted a medical condition involving swelling, which his wife said had persisted for several months.

Dhanmondi Police said the body was sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College for an autopsy after completion of the necessary legal procedures.

Police said the circumstances surrounding Jabed’s death remained under investigation. Whether it was a case of murder, suicide or drowning will be determined after a full investigation and the final autopsy report, they added.
