2 children die with measles-like symptoms
Two children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Friday, taking Bangladesh’s combined total of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 1,048 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS classified both deaths as suspected measles fatalities, with no confirmed measles-related deaths reported during the period.
The number of suspected measles deaths has now reached 948, while confirmed deaths remain at 100.
Meanwhile, 1,245 new suspected measles cases were reported during the 24-hour period, raising the nationwide cumulative total to 177,725.
The country also recorded 52 new laboratory-confirmed measles cases, taking the total number of confirmed infections to 20,395.
According to DGHS data, 156,718 patients with measles-like symptoms have been hospitalised across Bangladesh since March 15 this year.
Of them, 150,633 have recovered, the data showed.
