PM seeks tougher measures to curb plastic pollution
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday ordered law enforcement agencies to take stricter action against the unchecked use of polythene and plastic as part of efforts to control environmental pollution.
The Prime Minister also directed the ministries, departments and agencies concerned to properly discharge their responsibilities in enforcing measures against the use of polythene and plastic.
He issued the directives at a review meeting on controlling environmental pollution at the Secretariat in the morning, according to a release from the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.
The meeting reviewed progress in implementing various government initiatives to control environmental pollution and discussed future measures.
Among the issues discussed were increasing the use of environment-friendly block bricks, controlling air, water, soil and noise pollution, and improving waste management.
The Prime Minister’s directive comes amid efforts to strengthen enforcement against polythene and plastic, which contribute to environmental pollution and create pressure on waste-management systems.
