Hat-trick victory for BD U-20 women
The Bangladesh Under-20 Women’s Hockey team retained their winning streak in the Junior Asia Cup Hockey defeating Kazakhstan Under-20 Women’s Hockey team by four goals to nil in their third match at Moqi Training Ground in China on Tuesday.
Earlier, Bangladesh women thrashed Chinese Taipei by seven goals to nil in their first match at the same venue on September 5. Then, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan 5-1 at the same venue on September 6.
Bangladesh will face Hong Kong in their fourth match today.
With this win, Bangladesh have further strengthened their top position in the Challenger Pool with 9 points. Sharika Rimon scored a brace against Kazakhstan. Lima and Liza Akter netted one goal each.
Bangladesh kept Kazakhstan under pressure from the start of the match. Sharika gave Bangladesh the early lead in the third minute of the match by scoring from a penalty corner.
Then Liza doubled the lead in the 14th minute. Bangladesh took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter.
After conceding two goals, Kazakhstan tried to make a comeback. They also made some attacks.
However, Kazakhstan could not break Bangladesh’s solid defense. As there were no more goals in the second and third quarters, Bangladesh remained ahead by 2-0.
Bangladesh took control of the match again in the fourth quarter. They scored two more goals at that opportunity.
Lima scored a field goal in the 46th minute to make the score 3-0. Then Sharika scored her second goal from a penalty corner in the 51st minute.
This ensured a big 4-0 victory for Bangladesh.
This is the second time that Bangladesh Under-20 Women’s Hockey team are playing in the Junior Asia Cup.
Bangladesh previously participated in the 2023 edition and finished ninth. The current champions of the Women’s Junior Asia Cup are India.
In this 10-team tournament, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong are in the Challenger Pool with Bangladesh. On the other hand, Japan, India, South Korea and Malaysia are in the Elite Pool with hosts China.
The top three teams in the Challenger Pool and five teams in the Elite Pool will play in the quarterfinals. The fourth and fifth-place achiever teams in the Challenger Pool will play in the ninth-10th place match.
