President, PM call for Prophet’s teachings
Muslims across Bangladesh will observe Eid-e-Miladunnabi today (Wednesday) with religious solemnity, commemorating the birth and death of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and reflecting on his enduring teachings on peace, justice, compassion and human dignity.
The occasion is being marked through a range of religious, cultural and state programmes, with the government and various organisations making elaborate arrangements.
The national flag will be hoisted at government, semi-government and autonomous offices, as well as private buildings, to mark the day.
Major roads and important locations in Dhaka will also be decorated with national and colourful flags and banners bearing the Kalima Tayyiba, as in previous years.
The Islamic Foundation has organised a series of religious and cultural programmes, including Qirat, Naat recitations, poetry readings, cultural competitions and an Arabic Khutba writing contest.
A month-long Islamic book fair will also be held at the south plaza of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Bangladesh Television (BTV), Bangladesh Betar and other electronic media outlets will broadcast special programmes marking the occasion, while newspapers are expected to publish special supplements.
Bangladesh’s diplomatic missions abroad will also observe Eid-e-Miladunnabi with due religious respect and solemnity.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have issued separate messages extending greetings to Muslims in Bangladesh and around the world.
In his message, the President highlighted the Prophet’s life and conduct as an enduring example of truth, justice, forgiveness, compassion and respect for human dignity.
The Prophet (PBUH) established the rights of orphans, the poor, the helpless and the deprived and provided clear guidance on protecting the rights of women, children, neighbours and working people, Mirza Fakhrul said.
He said the Prophet’s teachings were particularly relevant at a time when wars, conflicts, violence, inequality and intolerance were causing suffering around the world.
The President urged people to draw inspiration from those teachings and reject violence, hatred, division and injustice, while working towards a society and state based on peace, harmony, equality and humanity.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also called on people to follow the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to build a peaceful, just and humane society.
He described the Prophet’s life as a living embodiment of the teachings of the Quran, saying he demonstrated honesty, trustworthiness, justice, forgiveness, tolerance, compassion and charity.
The Prime Minister said the Prophet upheld human dignity and rights by rising above divisions based on race, ethnicity, tribe, language and social status.
Referring to conflicts and crises around the world, Tarique Rahman said wars, violence, inequality, intolerance and moral degradation were undermining peace, security and normal life.
“In such a time, the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) on peace, justice, compassion, forgiveness and humanity are highly relevant,” he said.
He urged people to incorporate these principles into their personal, family and social lives, stressing that mutual respect, compassion, tolerance and a sense of justice were essential to building a peaceful, just and humane Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister also prayed for peace, justice, equality, prosperity and humanity in Bangladesh and across the world.
