Badi-Miftah, others land in jail

The International Crimes Tribunal has ordered four accused, including former Cox’s Bazar-4 MP Abdur Rahman Badi and Brigadier General Miftah Uddin Ahmed, sent to jail in a crimes against humanity case over the alleged staged killing of Teknaf councillor Ekramul Haque.

The other two accused are Brigadier General Mahbub Alam and former RAB director general Anwar Latif Khan.

The tribunal also ordered newspaper notices calling on seven absconding accused, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, to surrender.

The other accused include former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former bridges minister Obaidul Quader and former IGP Benazir Ahmed.
International Crimes Tribunal-2, headed by Judge Md Manjurul Bashid, passed the orders following a prosecution petition on Tuesday.

The prosecution alleged that Ekramul was abducted from Teknaf on May 26, 2018, and later killed in what was described as a staged gunfight with RAB personnel.

The accused face allegations including illegal detention, abduction, shooting, murder, instigation, aiding and abetting, and ordering the killing.

The tribunal set September 7 for the next hearing.
