Hasan not to play in last two County matches
Kent has lost the services of Hasan Mahmud-who was in scintillating form in the County Championship-at the last minute.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will not allow the Bangladeshi pacer to play in the final matches of the County Division Two campaign.
Consequently, Kent has suffered a major blow to their hopes of securing promotion in the English county circuit.
Hasan had been breathing fire in Canterbury, claiming 26 wickets across four County Championship matches.
His superb bowling helped Kent climb to third place in the Division Two standings.
Kent trails Northamptonshire-which currently hold the final promotion spot. Durham have already secured the title and a return to Division One.
Yet, Kent will be without Hasan during this crucial period.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made this decision primarily to manage the workload of Hasan, a regular international cricketer across all formats.
With a busy schedule ahead, the board decided against allowing him to continue playing in the county championship.
Hasan is scheduled to take the field for Bangladesh in the Asian Games quarter-final on September 28.
Following that, there are Test series against Afghanistan and the West Indies. Towards the end of the year, Bangladesh will tour South Africa to play across all three formats.
Meanwhile, Simon Cook, Kent’s Director of Cricket, expressed disappointment at losing Hasan, despite accepting the decision.
He said, “We are disappointed to lose Hasan for the final County Championship matches.
However, we respect the decision reached after constructive discussions with the BCB. We wish him well for the winter season.”
Cook acknowledged Hasan’s contributions throughout the season, stating, “Everyone at the club thanks Hasan for his contributions over the season, having taken 30 wickets in seven matches across the County Championship.
Kent will play their final two matches of the season at home.
In the match starting on Tuesday, their opponents are the bottom-placed side Lancashire, followed by a game against Gloucestershire.
