HC orders Kaptai Lake boundary survey
The High Court on Sunday ordered the authorities concerned to survey the boundary of Kaptai Lake in Rangamati within four months and identify illegal occupiers of land within its boundaries.
The court also directed the authorities to submit a list containing the names and addresses of owners of illegal structures identified during the survey.
A High Court bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan passed the order following a hearing on a supplementary petition.
The court directed the Rangamati deputy commissioner and the director general of the Department of Land Records and Surveys to conduct the survey in accordance with the original map of Kaptai Lake.
The authorities have been asked to submit the survey report by 6 January 2027. Senior lawyer Manzill Murshid appeared for the petitioner. The order came after Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) sought judicial intervention over reports of pollution and encroachment in Kaptai Lake.
