Zardari vows to strengthen Pakistan-Bangladesh ties, invites Alamgir to Islamabad
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, expressing his desire to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries.
In a message of felicitation, President Zardari said Pakistan and Bangladesh shared close bonds rooted in their common history, faith and cultural ties.
He welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral relations and expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would continue to expand in areas of mutual interest.
The Pakistani president said he looked forward to working with President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to further strengthen Pakistan-Bangladesh relations and promote greater exchanges and cooperation between the peoples of the two countries.
President Zardari also invited President Alamgir to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient time, saying such a visit would provide an opportunity to further consolidate bilateral ties and deepen cooperation.
The invitation comes amid renewed efforts by Dhaka and Islamabad to broaden engagement across political, economic, cultural and people-to-people areas.
President Zardari expressed confidence that Bangladesh would continue to make progress under President Alamgir’s leadership and advance the well-being of its people.
He conveyed his best wishes to the Bangladeshi president for the successful discharge of his responsibilities and for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.
Speaking at the regular press conference of China’s Foreign Ministry on August 21, spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing highly valued its relations with Bangladesh.
“China congratulates Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the president of Bangladesh,” Lin said in response to a question from Shenzhen TV.
He said China stood ready to work with the Bangladeshi government to implement the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries.
Beijing also expressed its intention to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and expand exchanges and cooperation across various areas.
Lin said China would work with Bangladesh to strive for new progress in building a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.
