DMP arrests 498 people in 24-hour Dhaka crime crackdown

Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested 498 people and filed 47 cases in the past 24 hours on Friday during regular anti-crime operations across the capital, recovering firearms, ammunition, drugs, vehicles and cash. The arrests were made by different divisions of the DMP as part of the citywide operations, according to a press release issued by the police.

Mirpur Division recorded the highest number of arrests, with 131 people detained, followed by Wari with 91 and Uttara with 59.

Tejgaon Division arrested 51 people, while Motijheel arrested 48, Gulshan 45, Ramna 36 and Lalbagh 31.

The Detective Branch (DB) arrested four people, while the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit arrested two.

During the operations, police recovered two local pipe guns, two rounds of bullets and 39 rounds of Chinese rifle bullets.

The law enforcement agencies also seized 10,287 yaba tablets, 1.50kg of cannabis and 70 bottles of Phensedyl syrup.

The recovered items further included five mobile phones, a truck, a motorbike and Tk 4,99,870 in cash, along with other items.

Legal proceedings against those arrested are underway, the DMP said.
