Zinc Rice BRRI Dhan 62 cultivation starts Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban
PGUK arranged a farmers training on importance and cultivation of zinc rice BRRI dhan62 in Cox'sBazar recently. A. K. M. Shahria, Deputy Director, DAE, Cox's Bazar was present as Chief Guest.

A farmers’ training was held at Chakmarkul Union Parishad, Ramuupazila under Cox’s Bazar district on zinc rice BRRI dhan62 under Delivery of Zinc Rice in Bangladesh. Prokash GanoUnnayan Kendra (PGUK) has implementing this project with the support of Harvest Plus Bangladesh.
On July 07, PGUK has arranged a farmers training on importance and cultivation of zinc rice BRRI dhan62. In the training Chief Guest was A. K. M. Shahria, Deputy Director, DAE, Cox’s Bazar.
Harvest Plus representative Md. Enamul Kabir, Officer-Agriculture Research & Development, Special Guest Md. Atiqe Ullah, Upazila Agriculture Officer, Ramu were present .
Md. Nurul Amin, UP Member was president of the training. In this programme Ali Hossain and Md. Rejaur Rahman, SAAO, Md. Saifur Rahman, Coordinator of PGUK was also present. Harvest Plus Representative Md. Enamul Kabir says Zinc proves to be a vital ingredient for human body. According to research zinc helps improving body growth and immune system. In addition, it supports reproductive health and fertility for both men and women.
As per statistics 41% of the children under five years old are suffering from zinc deficiency in Bangladesh. Moreover, among the components of hidden hunger, zinc proves to be the most deficient element in Bangladesh.
To address this nutritional deficiency Harvest Plus had launched its research through BRRI to develop such varieties of rice, which will contain zinc in higher amount.
In the continuation of Harvest Plus’s ideology, BRRI has released zinc rice BRRI dhan62 in the year 2013 for the first time in the world. This Zinc rice variety contains about 20mg/kg zinc.
Moreover, this zinc rice takes only 100 days to harvest, 10 to 40 days less than other variety in T. Aman season and allowing farmers to increase the cropping intensity and productivity.
