‘The Difficult Bride’ to premiere at London fest

Rubaiyat Hossain’s ‘The Difficult Bride’ has been in the news after making it to two prestigious international film festivals like Venice and Toronto. This time, the movie has made it to another festival.

The lineup for the 70th edition of the BFI London Film Festival was announced on Monday. ‘The Difficult Bride’ is on the list.

Variety reported that the 70th BFI London Film Festival will be held from October 7 to 18. This year, 10 films will compete for the ‘Best Film Award’ trophy.

Apart from Rubaiyat Hossain’s ‘The Difficult Bride’ from Bangladesh, the list includes Japan’s Hirokazu Kore-Eda’s ‘Look Back’, Ukraine’s Sergey Loznitsa’s ‘Imperium’, UK’s Carol Morley’s ‘7 Miles Out’, Hungary’s Lili Horvat’s ‘My Notes on Mars’, Argentina’s Benjamin Naishtat’s ‘Glaxo’, Irish production duo Christine Molloy and Joe Lawler’s ‘Act 3’, Italy’s Giovanni Tartorici’s ‘Ketisse’, Poland’s Malgorzata Szumovska and Michael Englert’s ‘The Idiots’ and Denmark’s May El-Tukhi’s ‘Women Unknown’.

“We are proud to welcome both old and new filmmakers to the same stage for the 70th edition of the festival,” said Christy Matheson, director of the BFI London Film Festival.

“This year’s competition features a wonderful mix of diverse production styles and stories.”

The producer of ‘The Difficult Bride’ says that it is a psychological horror film. The story is centered around the traditional Mayfair Beauty Parlor in Dhaka.

Zainin Karim plays the lead role in the film. This is her first film. Also starring are Azmeri Haque Badhon, Rikita Nandini Shimu, Sunerah Binte Kamal, Shatabdi Wadud, Saberi Alam and Mohammad Bari.

The film is jointly produced by France’s François d’Artemare, Germany’s Anna Cachco, Portugal’s Pedro Borges and Norway’s Ingard Lil Hutton, along with Rubaiyat Hossain.
