Farmer electrocuted in Bauphal

A farmer named Yusuf Rari (50) died after getting entangled in a torn electric wire lying on the road due to negligence of Bauphal Electricity Office in Patuakhali.

The accident occurred on the road adjacent to a school in Kamalapur area of Ward No. 1 of Keshabpur union of the upazila at around 2 pm on Monday. The deceased Yusuf Rari is the son of Ishaq Rari of Kamalapur area.

According to locals, while a vacuum machine was being taken along the road on Sunday morning, a wire from a rural electricity pole tore off and fell on the road.

When the matter was reported to the electricity office, the employees of the Mominpur zonal office of rural electricity came to the spot.

The office people demanded money from some customers to repair the torn wire. Since they could not pay the money, the workers left without repairing it even though the wire was lying on the road in a risky condition.

Then on Monday afternoon, while going to cut grass for his cows, he got entangled in an electric wire lying on the road and died on the spot. Tension spread in the area due to this incident. Angry locals surrounded the Mominpur zonal office of Palli Bidyut and protested.

Patuakhali Palli Bidyut Samity General Manager (GM) Md. Abul Kashem said, we have learned that a person was killed by getting entangled in an electric wire.

The incident is under the jurisdiction of the Kalishuri office. The head of the office has been sent to the spot to investigate the matter. Details will be known when he submits a report after the investigation.

Bauphal Police Station OC Sirajul Islam said, after receiving the information, police have been sent to the spot to control the situation.
