KUET, IST sign MoU to bolster academic activities

Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) and Portugal’s Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand academic, research and international cooperation between the two institutions.

The MoU was signed at a ceremony held at noon on Thursday at the conference room of KUET’s administrative building.

KUET Registrar Engr Md Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan and Professor Dr Mohammad Ariful Islam of the Department of Mechanical Engineering spoke at the event, while Professor Dr S M Sohel Morshed represented IST. Professor Dr Md Rizvi Kaiser, Deputy Director of KUET’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), moderated the programme.

KUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Mashud signed the MoU on behalf of the university, while Professor Rogerio Colaco, President of Instituto Superior Técnico.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will facilitate exchanges of students, faculty members and staff in fields including science, technology, engineering, mathematics and architecture.

The agreement will also create opportunities for joint research, co-supervision of master’s and doctoral theses, organising research meetings and conferences, and exchanging scientific equipment, publications and information.

Speakers at the ceremony said the agreement would create new avenues for mutual cooperation and knowledge-sharing in education and research. It would also help expand and strengthen KUET’s international academic and research activities.

Deans of various faculties, directors of institutes, heads of departments, hall provosts, directors, heads of offices and sections, and other faculty members and officials of KUET attended the signing ceremony.
