3-day Nat’l Fisheries prog begins in Jashore

JASHORE: District Council Administrator Delwar Hossain Khokon takes part in a colourful rally in the district on Sunday marking the National Fisheries Fortnight 2026.

A three-day long (from16 August to 18 August) National Fisheries programme is being celebrated in Jashore with celebrations under the theme, “A self-reliant country in silver fisheries, Bangladesh first.”

The programmes included a rally, fish fry release, discussion meeting and an award ceremony honouring successful fish farmers and entrepreneurs at the district level.

The day was officially inaugurated at the District Collectorate premises on Sunday. District Council Administrator Delwar Hossain Khokon, the chief guest, inaugurated the programme by releasing balloons and festoons.

Following the inauguration, a colourful rally started from the premises, paraded the main roads of the city and ended at the Municipal Park. Later, the guests released fish fry of different species into the pond at the park.

The three-day programme includes various events.
Following the fish fry release, a discussion meeting and award ceremony was held at the auditorium of the District Shilpakala Academy.
The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sujan Sarkar and addressed by District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Monirul Mamun. District Council Administrator Delwar Hossain Khokon attended the meeting as the chief guest.
The special guests were Abu Zafar Siddiqui, secretary of the district Jamaat, Dr SM Tanvirul Islam Haque, a researcher at the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, Zahidur Rahman Gulder, president of the District Fisheries Hatchery Owners Association, and Shamsuddin Chowdhury Sumon, its secretary.
Masudur Rahman, president of the Citizens’ Rights Movement, Jashore, also spoke at the meeting. Ashok Roy, Monirul Islam and fish fry trader Alamin Mridha also spoke on behalf of fish farmers and traders.
In recognition of their contributions to fish production, 11 successful fish farmers and entrepreneurs at the district level were presented with crests and certificates at the programme.
Local fisheries officials, hatchery owners, fish farmers, civil society representatives and media personnel attended the event, organised by the National Fisheries Day 2026 Celebration Committee, Jashore.
