Max Group to enter solar businesses, services
Max Group of Industries of Bangladesh is preparing to expand into the country’s solar market and plans to introduce its own solar-related products and services, said the group’s chairman Engineer Ghulam Mohammad Alomgir on Thursday.
Speaking as a distinguished guest at Astronergy’s World Tour 2026 – Bangladesh Roadshow in Dhaka, Max Group chairman Engineer Ghulam Mohammad Alomgir said the timing of the Chinese solar company’s Bangladesh initiative was appropriate as the government was placing greater emphasis on renewable energy, including utility-scale solar, rooftop systems and solar irrigation.
“The government is very serious about solar power and solar business,” he said, urging businesses and investors to take the emerging opportunity seriously.
Alomgir said Max Group had already ordered solar-related materials worth Tk 20 crore, which were expected to arrive soon as the group prepares to expand its involvement in the sector.
“We will also bring our own solar-related offerings to the Bangladeshi market,” he said.
He said Bangladesh’s solar market had significant potential, citing the government’s ambition to develop 10,000 megawatts of solar power within the next five years.
He viewed Chinese renewable energy companies as potential partners rather than competitors.
“I will request whoever is interested in solar to go for Chint and then go for MAX and Blue Carbon, another renowned Chinese company, later on,” he said.
Alomgir said he had known Chint for 12-13 years, visited its China factory about a decade ago, and had seen its solar operations while still developing.
“Today, I know that they are a global leader in solar,” he said.
Max already has around 2.5MW of solar capacity at one of its factories, he added.
He also said Max Group and Blue Carbon were planning to work together and bring their products and solutions to the Bangladeshi market.
The remarks came at the roadshow organised by Astronergy, a China-based global solar photovoltaic company, to mark its 20 years in the industry and strengthen footprints in Bangladesh.
A major highlight of the event was the launch of Astronergy’s latest N7 Pro solar module in the Bangladesh market.
The company said the module was developed with a focus on performance, reliability and long-term durability, aiming to support more efficient and sustainable solar power generation.
The roadshow brought together industry leaders, investors, distributors, strategic partners and representatives of Bangladesh’s renewable energy and industrial sectors, along with a delegation from China.
The event also featured an award ceremony recognising local organisations and representatives in categories including Best Distributor, Best Strategic Partner and Best Solar Project.
A contract-signing session was also held, signalling further cooperation between Astronergy and local partners in Bangladesh’s renewable energy sector.
President of the Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association Mostafa Al Mahmud said renewable energy was no longer optional for Bangladesh but a strategic necessity amid rising electricity demand, dependence on imported fuel and climate risks.
Solar power, rooftop solar and battery storage would strengthen Bangladesh’s energy security, he said, calling for international partnerships to move beyond technology supply towards technology transfer, competitive financing, transparent bidding and long-term investment.
Highlighting the strong potential for cooperation between Chinese renewable energy companies and Bangladesh’s private sector, he said Astronergy’s visit should generate new investment and partnerships.
He added that BSREA stands ready to work with the government and industry to accelerate the country’s renewable energy transition.
The association welcomed international technology and investment while encouraging global companies to work with local partners to build a sustainable renewable energy ecosystem.
Astronergy said it would continue working with local partners and promoting high-efficiency solar technology as Bangladesh seeks to expand renewable energy and reduce its dependence on conventional fuels.
The event concluded with a gala night, live music, a quiz competition and a lottery draw, bringing together industry stakeholders and Astronergy’s partners.
