Rabindranath’s 85th death anniv celebrated in RUB
The 85th death anniversary of universal poet Rabindranath Tagore was observed with deep respect and due dignity in Rabindra University, Bangladesh (RUB) through various programmes on Thursday under the overall direction of Vice-Chancellor Professor Tahmina Akhtar.
Various programmes were organised on the occasion of the day. At the beginning of the programme at 10:00 in the morning, Pro – Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Sobahan. University Proctor (Acting), Chairman of various departments, Hall Provost and House Tutor, teachers, students, officers and employees were present. Dhaka University Bangla Department Professor Dr. Momen Rosul was also present.
After the tribute, a seminar and cultural programme was organised by the music department of Rabindra University. Under the chairmanship of Debashree Dolan, chairman of the music department, the Pro vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Sobahan was present as the chief guest. Professor of Bangla Department of Dhaka University gave a speech as a speaker in the seminar.
In the speech of the chief guest, Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Sobahan said, Rabindranath Tagore is not only of Bengali literature and culture, he is a unique example of universal humanity.
His literature, philosophy, educational thought and ideals of human welfare are equally relevant in our personal life, society and state thought even today. The main spirit of establishing Rabindra University is to advance the development, research and practice of Rabindra-philosophy.
He also said that the students should play a leading role in building the country and society by being inspired by non-sectarian, humane and creative values through Rabindracharcha.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor said Rabindranath’s teachings inspire us to be free-thinking, creative and self-dedicated to human welfare.
To convey Rabindra-philosophy and cultural heritage to the new generation, the university will carry out various researches in the future. Seminars, cultural events and academic activities will continue.
