3 of a family found dead in Bagerhat

Police suspect murder after injuries found on victims’ heads Police recovered the bodies of three members of the same family from a house in Kachua upazila of Bagerhat on Tuesday afternoon.

The bodies were found at a residence in Chanderkola village under Raripara Union, triggering shock among local residents.

The deceased were identified as Monira Begum, 60, wife of the late Abdar Ali Howlader; her son Ahad Howlader, 25; and Monira’s mother Rashida Begum, 90.

According to police and local sources, several women from the neighbourhood noticed the body of an elderly woman lying on the veranda around noon. After calling out to the other family members and receiving no response, they entered the house and found two more bodies inside.

Local resident Bulu Begum said she became suspicious after noticing a foul smell coming from the house. She later found the decomposed bodies and informed police.

Kachua Police Station Officer-in-Charge Harun Ar Rashid said injuries were found on the victims’ heads, leading police to initially suspect that they had been murdered.

He said the incident may have taken place two to three days earlier.

The deaths apparently went unnoticed because there was little movement of people around the house, the police official added. The bodies were being sent for autopsy to determine the exact causes of death.

Police have launched an investigation to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the killings.
