5 Nilphamari APPs resign

Five Assistant Public Prosecutors (APPs) of the Nilphamari District and Sessions Judge’s Court have resigned, citing fundamental differences with the government’s recent decisions, concerns over judicial independence, and the implementation of the July Charter.

The APPs submitted their resignation letters separately to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner in Nilphamari on Monday.

The resigning Assistant Public Prosecutors are Advocate Anichur Rahman Azad, Advocate Abu Sufian, Advocate Mujahid Islam Shah, Advocate Morsalin Islam, and Advocate Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

In their resignation letters, they stated that serving the people as Assistant Public Prosecutors and carrying out their assigned responsibilities had been a matter of pride. However, they said they could no longer continue in the role due to fundamental disagreements with the government’s recent actions and policies.

They claimed that their decision was influenced by what they described as the government’s failure to implement the July Charter in line with public expectations, the lack of progress in establishing a separate secretariat for the judiciary, concerns regarding judicial independence, and public questions surrounding the recent appointment of Supreme Court judges.

Advocate Anichur Rahman Azad, one of the resigning APPs and Secretary of Nilphamari Town Jamaat-e-Islami, said, “The recent decision regarding the appointment of Supreme Court judges has raised public concerns about judicial independence and constitutional governance.

Under the current circumstances, our conscience no longer allows us to continue serving as Assistant Public Prosecutors.”

Repeated attempts were made to contact Nilphamari Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nairuzzaman by mobile phone for his comments, but he did not answer the calls. Therefore, his statement could not be obtained.
