BU Assistant Professor Shafiqul Suspended in Women-Children Case

The authorities of the University of Barishal (BU) have temporarily suspended Assistant Professor Md. Shafiqul Islam of the Department of English following his imprisonment as an accused in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

According to an official order signed by Acting Registrar Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Alim Bachhir on Monday (August 3), Md. Shafiqul Islam is facing trial in a criminal case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000. He was arrested in connection with the case and remained in jail custody for more than five and a half months.

In this context, pursuant to Section 39(2) of the Government Service Act, 2018, and Section 44(6) of the University of Barishal Act, he has been placed under temporary suspension from his university position with effect from September 16, 2025.

The order further states that during the suspension period, he will be entitled to a subsistence allowance in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations. The order takes immediate effect.

The charge sheet submitted by the police notes that preliminary evidence supporting the allegations in the case has been found.
