Child dies with measles symptoms at RpMC

A nine-month-old child named Shawon has died with symptoms of measles at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) Hospital, raising the death toll from suspected measles symptoms in Rangpur Division to 12.

The information was confirmed by the Office of the Divisional Director of Health in Rangpur on Sunday (August 2). Shawon died on Saturday night while undergoing treatment at the hospital’s measles isolation ward. He was the son of Sweet Mia from Rangpur Sadar upazila.

Meanwhile, 20 new patients with measles symptoms were identified across Rangpur Division in the past 24 hours. Of them, one is receiving treatment at Lalmonirhat General Hospital, five at Nilphamari Hospital, four at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, and 10 at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

From March 30 to Sunday this year, a total of 2,150 patients with measles symptoms have been identified in Rangpur Division. Of them, 2,098 have recovered and returned home.
