Indian envoy meets US spl envoy Gor
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi held talks with visiting US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor in Dhaka on Friday, in a meeting that comes amid a series of high-level diplomatic engagements between the United States and Bangladesh aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and bilateral ties.
The meeting took place at a city hotel in the morning. While no official details were disclosed, a diplomatic source on the US side described the discussions as positive.
“The meeting was held at a city hotel in the morning. I can only tell you it was a good meeting,” the source told the meida.
The agenda of the meeting was not made public, and it could not be immediately
confirmed what issues were discussed. The meeting follows Gor’s message on 25 June welcoming Dinesh Trivedi as India’s new High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
“As the US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, I look forward to working closely with him,” Gor said at the time, wishing Trivedi every success in his “important role”.
Gor has been engaged in a series of meetings during his visit to Bangladesh.
On Thursday evening, he met Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman at the State Guest House Padma to discuss bilateral and regional issues.
The US envoy also visited the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar on Friday as part of his itinerary and is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today.
Following his meeting with Gor, Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman said Bangladesh’s relations with the United States continue to move in a positive direction and would build on the progress already achieved.
“Our engagement with the US is not limited to one meeting. We remain engaged on all aspects and at all levels, and the relationship is moving forward,” he told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the meeting.
Gor’s visit reflects continued high-level engagement between Dhaka and Washington on a range of bilateral and regional issues, including humanitarian cooperation, strategic affairs and broader South Asian developments.
