Pro-VC joins Rabindra University

Professor Dr Md Abdus Sobahan, the newly appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra University, officially joined the university on Tuesday at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office in Administrative Building-1.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education issued a notification on Monday (July 27), with the approval of the President, appointing Professor Dr Md Abdus Sobahan of the Department of Painting, Oriental Art and Printmaking at Rajshahi University as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra University.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Tahmina Akhtar welcomed and congratulated the newly appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor on his joining. Chairpersons and heads of departments, teachers, officers and employees of various departments of the university were present on the occasion.

Welcoming the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tahmina Akhtar said there was no substitute for collective leadership and mutual cooperation to make the university’s ongoing development activities more dynamic, well-planned and sustainable.

“I believe the newly appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor will play a significant role in strengthening the university’s teaching, research, administration and institutional capacity by drawing on his extensive academic and administrative experience. Together, we will work tirelessly to build a student-centred, research-oriented university of international standard,” she said.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr Md Abdus Sobahan said he would discharge his responsibilities with utmost dedication and sincerity to enrich education, research, artistic practice and innovation at Rabindra University while upholding Rabindranath Tagore’s ideals of creativity, human welfare and non-sectarian values.

“Under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, I look forward to working with teachers, students, officers and staff to establish Rabindra University as a modern, knowledge-based institution of international standard,” he said.

After joining, the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor exchanged greetings with teachers, students, officers and employees of the university.

Professor Dr Md Abdus Sobahan is a professor in the Department of Painting, Oriental Art and Printmaking at Rajshahi University. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Printmaking from the Institute of Fine Arts (now the Faculty of Fine Arts) at the University of Dhaka and obtained his PhD in Printmaking from Rajshahi University.
