UCB appoints Sufia Akter as deputy managing director

United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) has appointed Sufia Akter as deputy managing director, with responsibility for leading the bank’s wholesale banking division.

Akter brings more than 26 years of experience in corporate banking, transaction banking, cash management, trade finance, treasury solutions and working capital financing, according to a press release.

Before joining UCB, she worked at Bank Asia PLC, where she played a key role in establishing the transaction banking department under the corporate and investment banking division and contributed to its business growth.

She has also worked at HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, The City Bank PLC and Meghna Bank PLC.

During her career, Akter has led business-transformation initiatives, built teams and contributed to sustainable business growth.

She is a graduate of the Future CEO Programme and the Future CEO Leadership Recharge Programme of WSDA New Zealand.

“I am excited to be part of UCB’s transformation journey and look forward to contributing to building a stronger, more innovative and client-focused corporate banking platform,” Akter said.

UCB said her appointment would support the bank’s ongoing transformation and future growth.
